Tethered Oral Tissue Releases
Gentle, Functional Care
from Infancy to Adulthood
At Graceful Dental Innovations, we believe that optimal oral function starts with freedom—freedom of movement, freedom from restrictions, and freedom to thrive. Using the advanced LightScalpel CO₂ laser, we provide precise, compassionate releases of tethered oral tissues (TOTs), such as tongue-ties, lip-ties, and buccal ties. Our goal is to improve not just oral mobility, but whole-body function at every age.
Expertly Trained in Functional Laser Releases
Dr. Amy Gentner has completed advanced training through the Tongue-Tied Academy and is a proud member of the American Laser Study Club, reflecting her dedication to the science and precision behind laser-assisted oral surgery. Her approach is both skilled and supportive, ensuring each release is performed with care, clarity, and collaboration.
What Are
Tethered Oral Tissues (TOTs)?
Tethered Oral Tissues refer to restricted or tight attachments under the tongue, lips, or cheeks. These restrictions can limit mobility and affect a wide range of functions—from nursing in infancy to breathing, speech, posture, sleep, and jaw development throughout life.
Common signs of TOTs include:
Difficulty breastfeeding or bottle feeding in infants
Infants with poor weight gain or fussiness and gas
Speech delays or articulation challenges in toddlers and children
Mouth breathing, poor sleep quality, or snoring
Tension in the neck, shoulders, or jaw
Difficulty swallowing, chronic headaches, or TMJ pain in adults
Our Laser Approach:
Precision Meets Comfort
Unlike traditional surgical methods, we use the LightScalpel CO₂ laser—a powerful yet gentle technology that allows for:
- Minimally invasive releases
- Reduced bleeding and swelling
- Faster, more comfortable healing
- Greater precision with less trauma to surrounding tissue
This advanced approach is ideal for even the youngest patients, helping support successful feeding and development from day one.
TOTs Through Every Life Stage
Infants
A restricted tongue or lip can lead to feeding difficulties, reflux symptoms, gassiness, or poor weight gain. A gentle laser release can support better latch, suction, and comfort for both baby and parent.
Children & Teens
Undiagnosed TOTs can contribute to speech challenges, mouth breathing, bedwetting, and sleep disturbances. Early identification and treatment can promote healthier growth, improved function, and enhanced focus.
Adults
In adulthood, tethered tissues may present as chronic tension, jaw pain, clenching, poor posture, or restricted tongue movement. Many adult patients are surprised to discover that a simple laser procedure can resolve symptoms they’ve lived with for years.
Collaborative, Whole-Health Care
TOTs are never just a dental issue. That’s why we embrace a collaborative care model—partnering with lactation consultants, bodyworkers, speech-language pathologists, myofunctional therapists, pediatricians, and ENTs to ensure each patient receives comprehensive, customized care.
Whether your child is working on a proper latch or you’re an adult seeking relief from years of restriction, we guide you through the process with a team-based approach that addresses your full-body function—not just the release itself.
